The first training is the umpire mechanics clinic which covers the basic calls and positioning to be either the plate or base umpire. This year, the mechanics clinic will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2nd. If you are a new umpire volunteer, it is highly important to attend this training session. For those that have completed the mechanics training in the past, it can be a good refresher on the mechanics prior to the spring season. Junior umpires who are League Age 12 or League Age 11 players playing Majors are also welcome to attend and can serve as base umpires for AA games during the season.
Parents with children in AA should consider attending this training as each AA team will need 3-4 umpire volunteers in order to cover all AA games during the season.
The training will cover the Basic 6 calls, Angle/Distance drill, Pivot drill, Soft Toss drill, Game Management techniques, and more. This training is not just for those that want to umpire but is open to managers, coaches, parents, and players who would like to learn.

The second portion of the training is the rules clinic. This clinic will focus on a comprehensive look at Little League rules and regulations as it relates to regular season play. We will focus on the things most likely encountered during games and will also debunk some misunderstood rules and rule myths. You only have to attend one session, however 3 sessions are offered to accommodate schedules and location convenience within the 7 leagues of District 55. If you are a new umpire, it is important to attend 1 of the 3 sessions. It is also a good refresher for experienced umpires and managers, coaches and parents that want to learn more about the Little League rules.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the mechanics and rules clinic. If you have any questions please contact me at [email protected].
